There is some merit to that. In order to attract buyers and sell their services, the business needs to create its own user base. It can do that by recruiting more new users in order to meet demand. Or it can do that by charging higher prices for its services on a market which might only need a small fraction of the revenue generated by other customers. The same could be said of a service designed to improve customer service rather than generate revenue.
But to generate revenue is going to be a labor of love for many users.
There is always the question of whether and how businesses create user base. In many cases, it’s hard to find any evidence to support that claim. A good example is a business that uses mobile messaging to attract buyers via their mobile and web apps. They have had success on Twitter and elsewhere. That particular company has had a positive reaction to the user acquisition on Twitter as well.
